Game Format - Scramble Matchplay

  • Play from the best shot.
  • Best score wins the hole.
  • 1 point awarded per hole.
  • Ties do not carry over.

Preferable Lie Rule

  • Both players are entitled to a preferable lie:
    • One club length.
    • Semi-circle behind the ball.
    • No advantage toward the hole.
  • Applies to both players — including the one whose shot is chosen.
  • Same terrain rule: If the shot is in the rough, it must stay in the rough (even if the fairway is within one club length).

General Rules

  • Standard USGA rules apply unless otherwise stated.
  • All putts must be holed out unless conceded by the other team, even on lost holes (lowest score prize in play).

Out of Bounds / Penalty Areas

  • Treat all out-of-bounds as red stakes.
  • Drop parallel to where the ball entered the penalty area.
  • If OB off the tee, assume the next shot is your 3rd.

Strategy & Safety

  • If your partner’s shot might not be playable, leave the safe ball in place until confirmed.

Scoring

  • Enter all scores into 18Birdies immediately after each hole.
  • Confirm scores with the other team — this is your official scorecard.

Equipment

  • You must use your Hicks official ball until you lose it.

Bonus Points (2 points each)

  • Closest to the pin
  • Longest drive
  • Closest second shot
  • Longest putt
  • No lost balls over 18 holes

Pace of Play

  • We have a big group — keep things moving.
  • No need to rush, but be efficient:
    • Grab your club while chatting.
    • Walk toward your ball while talking.
  • Avoid pissing off the Marshall or having to skip holes.
  • Play “ready golf”:
    • Each team goes directly to their ball.
    • Whichever team is ready shoots — no need to follow order.
